Eli Joy Manning

Jan 13, 1976 – Jan 17, 2025

An image of flowers with Eli's name, date of birth, and date of death.

It is with such full, sad hearts that we share with you that our beloved Eli died on Friday, January 17th, 2025. Fuck cancer!

Eli and her beloved Zo

In these last four months she was living with Lindsay and Daven, supported by Captain, Jenny, Mik and many chosen family members too numerous to name. Among her Death Care Solidarity Crew, Lindsay nursed her body, Captain guided her spiritually, and Jenny supported her mind.

You may have known her as loving friend, as a respected feminist scholar, a Mistress of fabric and thread, a queer activist in spandex doing Protest Aerobics, an HIV/AIDS support worker, that Social Work professor who brought a decolonial and disability justice lens to all she taught, and so much more.

Eli was a sister, a PAL (partner in anarchist loving), a muppet, an aunty, a dog mom, a lady of ecstasy, a lover, a writer, a swimmer, a rower, a big queerdo-weirdo spreader of joy. She was most at home in the ocean, whether she was on it or in it. She leaves us with vast webs of connection and care.

Please consider a donation to either UNRWA (https://donate.unrwa.org/) or Indian Residential School Survivors Society (irsss.ca/donate).
